What is Internet Radio?
Internet radio is just like any AM or FM radio station except
you listen to it while your computer (equipped with sound
card and speakers) is connected to the Internet via a 56K
modem or broadband connection like cable and DSL. One major
and very important difference between a normal AM/FM radio
station and its Internet counterpart is the size of the
audience it can reach. Even the more powerful AM/FM radio
transmitters in our area have a limited geographic reach.
An Internet radio station, on the other hand, reaches the
world. The size of the listening audience for an Internet
radio station can be thousands of times larger than its
AM/FM counterpart.
How do I listen to an Internet radio station?
You must have a computer equipped with a sound card and
speakers. Your computer must have either a 56K dial-up modem
or a cable/DSL (preferable) Internet connection Then visit
Olde Surber
Station Radio and click the "Play" button
found there.
What is Olde Surber Station Radio?
Live365.com
is the best known Internet radio network. They host thousands
of Internet radio stations that play music in just about
every conceivable genre. For example, there are presently
sixty-one Live365 Internet radio stations that play bluegrass,
old time and country music. One of these Live365 Internet
radio stations is Olde
Surber Station Radio, owned and operated by Jack
and Carol Lewis (of the Oriskany
Strings) as part of their new country lodge. Olde Surber
Station Radio is of special interest because it only plays
bluegrass, gospel and old time string band music by bands
NOT associated with a major recording label. Such bands
are often called independent or "indie" bands.
What is the "Live at the Rex Theater" show?
Commencing March 28, 2005 Olde Surber Station Radio will
start rebroadcasting past "Live at the Rex Theater"
performances by independent bands that have played at the
Rex Theater and have agreed to have their music played on
the show. The service is being offered by Jack and Carol
free of charge. Click
here for the names of the bands, photographs, CDs and website
links.
How do I sign up my band?
It's pretty simple. All Jack needs is a CD of your performance
which you can obtain from Stu Shenk by asking him to create
a CD after your performance. If you only have a cassette
tape, find a studio or a friend who will convert the cassette
tape of your performance into an audio CD(s). Send the CD(s)
to Jack Lewis, 3578 Old Rail Road, Eagle Rock, VA 24085,
along with written permission to have your performance played
on the "Live at the Rex Theater" Internet radio
show. If you have any questions contact Jack by email: jwlewis@oriskanystrings.com.
